Organic Gunpowder tea has a long history, whose production dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907). It's Chinese name is Zhu Cha which is a famous green tea produced in Zhejiang Province of China.
This tea has won the 23rd World won the gold medal at the quality food selection in 1984 in Madrid, Spain, which also gained international cuisine and tourism Society Gold Medal in 1986 in Paris, France.
This tea has a dark golden color, roasted or toasted taste with a strong aftertaste lingering in the front palette, and a strong roasted or toasted aroma. Pellet size is also associated with quality, larger pellets being considered a mark of lower quality tea. High quality gunpowder tea will have small, tightly rolled pellets.
Because they are so tightly rolled, these little tea pellets keep exceptionally well which is rare for a high quality green tea. The tea leaves are rolled for drying purpose and to keep the aroma fresh for the drinker of this tea. When buying this tea, it is important to look for shiny pellets, which indicate that the tea is relatively fresh. When hot water is added, the little tea balls unfold gracefully and produce a flavorful dark green brew with a unique fragrance and a delightful, lingering aftertaste.
